AMY HĀNAIALIʻI
A Celebration of Kalawai`anui
Saturday, AUGUST 31
Maui Arts & Cultural Center
7:30 pm | McCoy Studio Theater
TICKETS ON SALE SATURDAY, AUGUST 10
Join us for an evening of music, hula, and culture as we celebrate and explore the newly released album “Kalawai’anui”, released by five-time GRAMMY Award nominee and 18-time Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winner Amy Hānaialiʻi. Amy takes you on an intimate look behind the rich stories and personal pasts that inspired her new album. Learn about who Kalawai’anui is, as well as the powerful connection between her and her ancestors, and their part in putting this album together.
Joining her in this event is the world-renowned Hālau Na Kipu’upu’u from Waimea; a traditional school of Hawaiian culture and dance. Under the direction of Kumu Hula Micah Kamohoaliʻi they will be presenting genealogical chants and stories from their Kalawaiʻanui Kahoaliʻi family line shared with Amy Hānaialiʻi. A striking, yet ritualistic presentation calling upon the power of their ancestors and cherished homelands, taking us on an impressive journey through genealogy, history, and landscapes.
This concert will be a benefit event for Mo’okiha o Pi’ilani – the first traditional Voyaging Canoe built on Maui in over 300 years! Melt into the music, become entranced by the dancing, and divulge the sacred stories that have been passed down from generation to generation.
Tickets: $65, $45, $35 (plus applicable fees)
A preshow meet & greet is also available for an additional fee.
