Weave is a dance project drawn from the interwoven and interdependent nature of our world. Like its namesake, Weave traces the vibrant threads of individual and embodied stories, uniting in an interdisciplinary performance woven of story, dance, moving image, and quadraphonic sound. The performance of Weave will also include dancers from the local community who were auditioned this past summer by Simas during a visit to Maui.
Rosy Simas is a Minneapolis-based Native American choreographer (Seneca). In creating Weave, Rosy Simas explores the inter-connectivity not just between people — but also in the natural world, right down to the cellular level. The project evolved from workshops and rehearsals conducted in various U.S. cities. The Weave team brings together an international gathering of Native, feminist, queer, transgender, and people of color artists, working together through the creative leadership, vision, and direction of
choreographer Rosy Simas.

“Rosy Simas Danse’s Weave… washed over the audience like a wave. It was a tactile piece, summoning the senses. Weave was like a series of abstract landscape paintings that morphed and changed as the dance progressed. Simas and her performers and collaborators compellingly created a sense of place, of characters and of sensations in the episodic storytelling.”
-Sheila Regan, Minneapolis Star-Tribune
